What has been your most rewarding moment working with animals?
Those times when pets come in very sick or on emergency & it seems unlikely they’d survive, but after a lot of hospitalization and care they pull through! The real reward though comes from the gratitude of an owner who didn’t think they’d be bringing their pet home…& it melts my heart every time to see that pet run to their owner.
What do you consider your greatest accomplishment at this point in your life?
I have many accomplishments I am proud of, but one that means the most is my dog “Coy”. He is a German Shepard mix. He was very sketchy, had heartworms, ehrlichia, Lyme disease & was malnourished…even though I was actually kinda nervous about this dog…I kept him. I treated him & handled him everyday! It’s been 2 years & he is such a good dog! He was just so scared of everything and everyone…I don’t think he was ever socialized…it’s crazy how much he has changed & how he loves everyone’s attention now!
What’s your favorite comfort food?
Potatoes
Advice to pet owners?
To research what pet you’re about to get, where you’re getting it from & if it’s a right fit for you. Pets can be very expensive & certain pets/breeds can come with a lot of issues & needs. It is very unfair to an animal that ends up in the wrong type of family & now is stressed due to the environment, children, lack of play time or is not taken care of due to financial issues. On the flip side…it’s always awesome to see those dedicated owners that get a new pet, but when it ends up sick they do anything they can…instead of just not treating it or dumping it.
What is your biggest fear?
Spiders and bats. Even looking at them makes me a little nervous!
Most unusual pet you’ve owned?
My mom found a praying mantis on a really cold fall day (she was not gonna make it another week) so she brought her inside & made a whole set up for her, fed her, researched her & gave her a nice “bug” environment…she ended up living for months! We were all so attached, her picture still hangs on the fridge! Her name was “Bug.”
